Jeff Haffner is a highly respected and skilled environmental and workplace safety lawyer. He has extensive knowledge of the issues and challenges confronting clients in process and logistics industries having worked in the energy industry for over 30 years. Most recently, Jeff was a Deputy General Counsel for the largest independent refining company in the United States where he was a trusted legal advisor and business partner.  He provided strategic counseling to Boards of Directors, C-Suite executives, senior operating and administrative professionals, and operating facility personnel.


Jeff advises clients on a broad array of environmental and safety issues, including regulatory compliance, incident response and crisis management.  He has experience defending and negotiating the settlement of civil and criminal allegations of non-compliance, assessing the adequacy of corporate compliance systems, and advising on business risks and mergers and acquisitions.


Jeff’s in-house career makes him adept at providing concise and actionable advice. He has firsthand experience on corporate crisis response having led a team of in-house lawyers and outside counsel managing the environmental and safety legal issues associated with one of the largest industrial accidents in the United States.

Jeff has experience in corporate governance matters having served as an assistant corporate secretary. He adopts a pragmatic approach to understanding and advising on the collateral impacts related to environmental and safety matters, including required governmental reporting and other financial disclosures. 

An engineer by training, Jeff worked as an environmental manager at a refinery prior to practicing law. He understands refinery and related logistics operations and is accustomed to working closely with operational personnel and client subject matter experts.
